My purpose in life is to help you find yours.
Meet Melissa Deveney
Intuitive Empowerment Coach | Retired LCSW | Neuro-Nerd | Empath | DIY Diva | Pirate-Princess & All-American Sailor
Hi, I’m Melissa — a personal tactician with a pirate-princess soul.
Think salty wisdom, fierce compassion, and the occasional well-placed F-bomb. Also: single parent to a wildly energetic little boy, explorer of post-divorce identity, and a firm believer that shame is just fear in a fancy outfit.
But really…
I’m someone who knows what it’s like to hit the edge — and boldly choose expansion anyway.
For over two decades, I worked in schools, special education, and community nonprofits, supporting humans through trauma, transition, identity shifts, and big emotional terrain. As a licensed clinical social worker, I learned how minds work, how behavior makes sense in context, and how deeply capable people already are — even when they’ve forgotten.
Along the way, I became mildly obsessed with the brain.
Nervous systems. Patterning. Habit loops. Trauma responses. Dopamine, serotonin, cortisol, adrenaline.
Why we do what we do. Why willpower fails. Why safety changes everything.
I’m a neuro-nerd who loves translating complex brain and nervous-system concepts into language real humans can actually understand — often through metaphor, story, and playful “brain hooks” that stick.
At the same time, I’ve always known things without knowing why.
I’m an empath who physically feels energy. I’ve been meditating since I was fifteen. I was drawn into Reiki, chakra energy healing, and body-based modalities over twenty years ago because I could sense there was more happening beneath the surface of words.
Now, as a Reiki Master and someone studying intuitive development through the Boulder Psychic Institute, I blend nervous-system education, neuroscience-informed tools, energy work, and intuitive perception to help clients attune to what their soul has been whispering all along.
Not because I have your answers.
Not because I tell you what to do.
But because I help you hear yourself more clearly than ever before.
You’ll often find me on the water. I’m a competitive sailor, Collegiate All-American, two-time national champion, and former Executive Director of a sailing nonprofit. I’m also a mother, author, builder, neuro-nerd, voice actor, and former armchair mechanic who genuinely enjoys fixing motorboat engines.
Jill of all trades? Absolutely.
ADHD? Yes! — and it’s my superpower.
At my core, I’m here for one thing:
Helping people remember who they are.
This work is my soul work. It’s intuitive, edgy, kind, and deeply transformative. I help you release who you’re not, reclaim who you are, and build a life that feels true instead of tolerable.
If you’re ready to live, love, and lead from your own inner compass…
Let’s fucking do this.
Grease Under My Fingernails, Wind in My Hair
Here’s the deal—I’m not your average coach. I’m a little salty, a little sparkly, and very into both spiritual depth and hardware stores.
Here’s some stuff you should probably know about me:
I built out a full Sprinter van with my own two hands.
I can back up a trailer at a busy boat ramp like a total boss. Precision = pleasure.
I’m writing my second book and it’s a spicy romance novel - no joke (I’m 76k words in and counting).
I did theater and have multiple voices ready to go at any moment. Story time? I'm your gal.
I nerd out on brain hacks, neuroplasticity, and how to trick your nervous system into safety.
I love fixing outboard engines. Grease, spark plugs, and carburetor cleaner instantly send me to my happy place.
At 15, I regularly attended weekly 2 hour meditations and lectures with a Zen Master.
I’ve got a soothing voice and would 100% love to narrate audiobooks or lead meditations.
Pirate Princess is my inner archetype. Unruly, wise, and not here for anyone’s expectations.
I make magic in Google Sheets. No shame in my spreadsheet game!
Fly fishing? Yes please!. Rafting? I’m in! Climbing? Heck yea! Sailing? I will literally throw elbows to beat you to the boat. Marble racer? BEST TOY EVER.
I love being underestimated and then quietly blowing expectations out of the water. If you’re into authenticity, intuition, and not taking yourself too seriously, we’ll get along just fine.
